FAQs
Q: What products freeze best?

A: The things that freeze best are butter and cheese (no problems at all). Cream cheese, sour cream, and heavy cream freeze fairly well. Freezing milk has mixed results - if its a bit grainy, you can strain it thru a fine strainer and then consume. Shaking the milk vigorously right before freezing will often eliminates the grainy texture.

Q: What is the shelf life of the products?

A: The milk doesn't ever really "spoil" like pasteurized milk. It just goes sour after about 10 days. You can use this soured milk for baking and mixing in smoothies :). It can store up to a few months like this in your fridge. The raw cheese lasts about a month in the fridge. If you see mold spots, just cut them off, but try to use up the cheese soon. The heavy cream will turn into sour cream in about 10 days, then the sour cream will last a month or two. The butter should last at least 3 months in the fridge (and up to a year frozen).

Q: What is the difference between the NC Healthy Food Choices Club and the Healthy Food Choices Club (with headquarters in GA)?

A: Healthy Food Choices Club is NOT a co-op. HFCC is a nation-wide organization that allows Member farmers to provide food and other products to non farming HFCC members. HFCC leases the animals involved from the farmers so when you order products from an HFCC farmer you are not paying for a retail sale of that product, since you as an HFCC member already own it. Instead you are paying the farmer for board, packaging, rendering, production, etc. The local NCHFCC is a group of people in Raleigh/Durham who are members o fHFCC and do group orders to save on shipping costs. NC Law currently only allows the sale of raw milk for animal consumption.

Q: How often can I order products?

A: Currently orders are only shipped every 4 weeks. As membership continues to grow, this may change in the future.

Q: Can I pay cash or credit card?

A: No, the farmer only accepts personal checks - please make out to Amos Miller and give to the pickup volunteer when you pick up your order.

Q: how do I join and submit my first order?

A: Go to the membership page (from the menu) and click on the link for the group that is closest to you.
